A knife on a Douglas Street bus, and a stabbing in Campbell River hours later
Two separate weekend knife attacks on the Island — a transit supervisor near Herald Street, and a woman found in a Cedar Street parking lot at 2:30 a.m.
The bus supervisor near Herald Street pulled the emergency "Call 911" sign around 7:45 p.m. Thursday, after a man showed a knife during an assault and walked off. Victoria police later arrested a suspect carrying a knife matching the one described. He stayed in custody ahead of a court appearance Monday.
BC Transit workers have been flagging violence on the job for a while now, and this is the kind of incident that keeps the issue in front of council. Police haven't said what led to the confrontation.
Up island, Campbell River RCMP were called to a parking lot in the 1200 block of Cedar Street at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers found a 30-year-old woman who'd been stabbed and stayed with her until paramedics arrived. Her injuries aren't considered life-threatening, and police say she's expected to make a full recovery.
Major crime, forensics and general duty units worked the scene for several hours. Investigators believe the woman knew her attacker and say there's no ongoing risk to the public. No arrests have been announced.
