An 80-year-old woman in View Royal credits the many to-do lists she’s made over the years with her adventurous life (she’s done some really cool things, check out our In Other News section to learn more). It’s got me thinking that I should start writing my own bucket list. Let us know what would be on yours!

Arts and Culture Colwood Society unveils new art centre
Art aficionados are getting excited after the Arts and Culture Colwood Society announced the celebration of the new Arts and Culture Centre on Goldfinch Road with an adjudicated art show.
“I’ve been looking at this property as an arts advocate for at least five years,” says Laura Davis, president of the Arts and Culture Colwood Society. “The whole concept is to provide a hub for our community here in Colwood, and we know people beyond that will be utilizing the space as well.”
The space has sat empty for some time now, and Davis had to compete with others who were vying for the space. Now, it's ready to open with its first show on Valentine's Day.

Missing Campbell River teens: Dommie Malcolmson, 15, and Cora Potoski, 16, were last seen yesterday and RCMP say they are concerned for their wellbeing. It’s unclear if these incidents are linked.

Public hearing set in death of woman shot by VicPD with “less lethal” weapon
The hearing, announced by OPCC last fall as a matter of public interest, is scheduled for April 15. Previous investigations found no misconduct from the police, but OPCC says the case should be reexamined. On Christmas Day 2019, Lisa Rauch, 43, was shot three times by VicPD in the back of the head with a weapon designed to have a lower injury impact if aimed at the body. It caused brain bleeding, resulting in her death four days later. [Times Colonist]
Recent losses dampening Royals’ comeback season
Since New Year's they've lost 13 of 16 games, though 6 losses were in extra time. The Royals remain 5th in the WHL's west, but their cushion on 6th and 7th is shrinking.
Saanich council asks BC to ban rodent glue traps
After hearing from animal welfare groups, council voted unanimously to bring the matter to UBCM and Association of Vancouver Island Coastal communities to help rally other communities to pressure the province. [Saanich News]
Island-based SPCA seeks funds to help surrendered bulldog puppy
Nine-month-old Lulu needs eye surgery to avoid vision loss, among other health issues, leading her owner to surrender her to the SPCA in Port Alberni. Donations would go to her necessary operations and care until she’s adopted. [CHEK]
View Royal senior says writing lists is the reason for adventurous life
Sharon Stevens-Smith, 80, credits her penchant for to-do lists in helping her achieve her life goals. She’s explored Africa on archaeological digs, worked with orangutans in the Borneo jungle, and rode a motorcycle from Vancouver Island to South Dakota. Now, she’s crossing off “writing a children’s book” with her release of Runtie and Trudie’s Grand Sailing Adventure. [CTV]
