INFOGRAPHIC: Every Canadian Killed by COVID-19 To Date
The scale of the loss can be hard to grasp. So we visualized it.

COVID-19 is now one of the deadliest disasters in modern Canadian history, second only to the Spanish Flu of 1918. It’s killed more nearly four times as many as the Halifax Explosion. It would take 31 occurrences of Canada’s deadliest air disaster, Arrow Air Flight Flight 1285 , just to match the pandemic’s human toll thus far.
And it’s a toll that has largely been hidden from view. Virtually all of the fatalities occurred behind closed doors in the nation’s locked-down care homes. Due to physical distancing requirements, very few of those deaths could be mourned with funerals or public burials.
So, our graphic designer, Tristan Pratt, has created the image below visualizing every single Canadian life lost to the disease thus far.
