MokSana Yoga
A Victoria yoga studio for classes, practice, and routine.
Twenty years of teaching Victoria to breathe, the last of it up Fan Tan Alley, now gone quiet.
Heads up: MokSana closed for good in May 2021, so this is a fond obituary, not a recommendation. Ida Winter opened it in December 2001 and ran it for nearly twenty years, the last stretch up the narrow brick of Fan Tan Alley in Chinatown, in a high, light-filled room on Songhees Nation land with a mural by Lekwungen artist Brianna Bear. A 2019 fire next door and then the pandemic finished what two decades couldn't. For a lot of Victorians, it was simply where they learned to breathe.
The move
If you practised there, you already know: the gently heated yogahour, billed as the most doable hard hour of flow anywhere, and the teacher training that seeded half the instructors you still take class from around town.
Go when
There is nowhere to go now, the door is shut and the website is gone. If you trained under Ida, the honest move is to find where she and her old MokSana teachers are leading class these days.
