A northbound lane of the Trans-Canada closes Monday in View Royal

The water-main leak CRD crews patched in September turned out to need more digging, and a second repair is still coming to Saanich before the end of the year.

The right-hand northbound lane of the Trans-Canada between the Island Highway and Six Mile Road overpasses closes Monday, and it stays closed through about Saturday, Oct. 31.

If this feels familiar, it is. Crews repaired a leak on this same transmission main in September, roughly 100 metres south of the new work area. While they were down there, they found two more spots that needed attention. One is here in View Royal. The second is in Saanich, and the CRD says it'll be fixed before the year is out.

The pipe is a big one. The 1.2-metre steel main is among the largest in the regional system, feeding Sidney, Central Saanich, North Saanich, the Tseycum, Tsawout, Tsartlip and Pauquachin nations, plus West Saanich, Royal Oak and Prospect Lake.

The CRD is asking anyone on that line to ease off indoor water use during the morning and early-evening peaks. Run the dishwasher after lunch or overnight, take a shorter shower, turn off the tap while you brush. Water quality isn't expected to change. The multi-use trail at the south end of Thetis Lake Regional Park, between Six Mile and Highland roads, is closed for the week too.
