About 2,000 cyclists take over Greater Victoria on Saturday, and the oldest is 87
Ryder Hesjedal's Tour de Victoria rolls out from the legislature Saturday morning, and 10 neighbourhoods will feel the traffic.
The Tour de Victoria returns to the Inner Harbour on Saturday, Aug. 15, with roughly 2,000 riders aged two to 87 setting out from in front of the legislature.
It's not a race. The event is a fully supported, traffic-controlled ride, with aid stations, medical and mechanical crews, and eight adult distances from 15 to 160 kilometres. The 160-kilometre route leaves at 7 a.m. and climbs about 2,200 metres; the shortest adult rides go off at 11:30 a.m., and a Kids Ride follows at 2 p.m. This year's ride raises money for the BC Cancer Foundation, with a $60,000 target.
Expect delays. Traffic disruptions and closures hit downtown, View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin, Sooke, Highlands, North Saanich, Saanich and Oak Bay. Registration closes Friday, Aug. 14.
If pedalling isn't your thing, Phillips Brewing on Government Street hosts Picklefest the same day, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with dozens of vendors and kids under 12 free.
